WORLD NEWS HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK

International Drone Day 2017.  Saturday May 6th saw drone pilots and many other drone enthusiasts assemble in communities across the globe. If you were a part of this event and have online media you can share with us, please send it over!  As of press time, the best recap of an event we could find comes from the team in Perth Australia:

Drone Pilots Federation was founded on a belief that we need a deliberate and systematic effort to establish and promote the positive uses of drones in our world. Click this link for the official site of International Drone Day.  Remember to share any of your noble efforts with drones on International Drone Day with us so that we can promote your efforts further!

BRIGHT SPOT OF THE WEEK

We are reserving this spot for the first DPF member who can share an image or video and a story about their efforts on International Drone Day 2017. Write a comment below to tell us and everyone else in our Federation about it.

SAFETY MESSAGE

USE CHECKLISTS!

Checklists are proven tools for quality and safety in aviation, operating rooms, and many other situations.  Some drone apps have checklists built in or you can create your own. The best pilots (our favorites) have a laminated checklist sheet so they aren’t reliant on electronics.  If you want to read a best-selling business-oriented book on this topic, read The Checklist Manifesto: How to Get Things Right by Atul Gawande (Amazon affiliate link).

One of the many potential projects to help pilots be more safe and successful within DPF was a proposal to compile and provide a set of world-class checklists for pilots.  If you have a strong opinion on that idea (or think you have any worth sharing or distributing) we would love to hear from you.

SACRAMENTO CHAPTER NEWS

Sacramento Region BYOD Drone Swarm May 23rd, 6-8pm.  This is your opportunity to get your drone questions answered.  Learn from other drone pilots 1-on-1. Get your drone parts assembled into a flying system!  Repair or replace the parts that are broken.  Sell or trade the drone equipment that you don't want anymore (or hope to find used from someone else). It's a BYOD-is-for-DRONE Swarm to help as many regional drone pilots as possible get the knowledge, products, and training that they need to be successful.  Cost is $10 to attend this event in Folsom. RSVP in advance here. Contact info for questions is available on that page too.
